Highland Park Michigan’s abandoned firehouse

| Fire Trucks, Wackers | June 27, 2012

Hp1

A story and photos submitted by Wacker Paul Balentine.

Highland Park Michigan abandoned firehouse former station 1 on Gerald St. At one time HPFD had FOUR stations with 113 personnel. Now they have one. All firefighters work/live in a warehouse and they have 7 FF’s on duty with one being committed to dispatching duties. City of HP is landlocked within Detroit city limits. It is 3 Sq. Miles with a population of 12-15000 estimated 2010 census. The city is burning down and nobody cares……..they rarely recieve mutual aid from the City of Detroit. They have tattered gear, used apparatus and few working portable radios. The aerial device is not safe for FF’s to be in the bucket so it is used as an elevated waterway. They do put FF’s in the bucket in extreme cases.
